This post will be more beneficial to those of you who are new to public relations. Those of us who have been doing this for some time know that the value of a third party advocate is priceless. Although it was not the case in this particular featured example, it is appropriate and important to provide reporters with the names and contact numbers of individuals who you know are supportive of the product, policy or program that your client is launching/promoting. Reporters may or may not choose to take advantage of the information provided, but either way, taking that additional step will distinguish you in your ability to influence the ultimate outcome of the piece. I also believe that the reporter is appreciative of the lead whether or not they choose to follow up on the information.

The BPD issued a press release regarding the below information which is an important first step, but ultimately it is a not as effective as the first person account of the victim’s positive experience with the officers. Officers were pleased that they were able to reunite the victim with his property and also hold the suspect accountable.
